Salò Tomorrow

The Salò of Tomorrow

A beautiful town is also a town that is good to live in. This independent editorial vision asks how Salò can protect its public spaces, welcome visitors and sustain everyday life, starting with Piazza Vittoria.

Independent illustrative proposal. Not an approved municipal project and not a photograph of the square as it is today.

Six principles for a welcoming town

  • Public space that remains genuinely usable
  • Clear views of monuments and the lake
  • Coordinated, proportionate outdoor furniture
  • Cultural events suited to their setting
  • Respect for rest and everyday life
  • Tourism that supports the local community

The square as the town’s calling card

Piazza Vittoria brings together the civic buildings, the monument, the ferry landing and the lake. Its representative role deserves legible views and generous pedestrian space. The illustration expresses an idea of balance, not a measured plan: the relationship between the Magnifica Patria, the waterfront and the public square takes priority.

Space, proportion and shared beauty

Outdoor dining and local businesses give life to the centre. The proposal is to combine this vitality with coordinated furniture, proportionate occupation and clear paths. Areas around the monument and ferry access, and the sightlines towards the lake, deserve particular care. Exact surfaces and distances would require municipal plans and technical assessment; none are invented here.

The right event in the right place

Art, books, exhibitions, carefully curated markets and music compatible with the setting can enrich the historic centre. Duration, amplification, equipment and assembly matter as much as the event’s title. Larger or noisier formats should be assessed for suitable alternatives, without simply transferring disturbance to other residents. Pedrazzi–Turina and the Fossa are areas to examine, not approved relocation sites.

Hospitality begins with liveability

Quiet, cleanliness, accessible public space and predictable services benefit residents, visitors and businesses together. The September 2026 contribution also considers waste collection, early-morning noise and advance information about disruptive works. These become shared questions of urban quality here, rather than accounts of individual disputes or guest complaints.

An open, constructive vision

The basis is the contribution prepared for the meeting with the municipality on 17 September 2026. Decisions belong to the competent public bodies. The proposed principles are an invitation to dialogue, not a claim that existing activities are unlawful or that the municipality has endorsed the illustration. Other squares will be discussed only with specific material and a clear distinction between documented proposals and new ideas.
